What is Scouting?

Discovery is at the heart of Scouting. Whether it’s a campout, derby car race, or hike on the trail, we believe every adventure helps us uncover a little more about ourselves. We build the foundations for humility and compassionβ€”strengthening character through actionsβ€”to prepare youth for a lifetime of leadership.

What Do Chickasaw Council Scouts Do?

The short answer is β€œa LOT!” Scouts of all ages meet regularly with their Pack, Troop, Crew or Post; serve their community in a variety of ways; raise money to help fund activities; explore career paths; and work to advance through the ranks of Scouting.

At the heart of the Scouting experience, though, is outdoor adventure. Through experiences like camping, hiking, climbing, swimming, paddling, shooting, fishing, and much more, Scouts develop self-reliance, confidence, character, citizenship, leadership, and personal fitness β€” all while having loads of fun!

Here’s a glimpse at some of what the Scouts, volunteers, parents and staff of the Chickasaw Council do every year.

Go To Summer Camp in the Ozarks

Scouts BSA summer camp at Kia Kima Scout Reservation in the beautiful Arkansas Ozarks is our region’s premier camping experience! Situated on 540 acres, Kia Kima comprises three distinct camps: Camp Osage, Camp Cherokee, and the Ozark Venture Base. Scouts spend a week camping, swimming, rock climbing, fishing, paddling, sailing, shooting, backpacking, spelunking, rappelling and much more.

Raise Money with Annual FUNdraisers

Each year, Scouts sell delicious popcorn and meat sticks to help fund unit priorities like membership fees, uniforms, and camping. These fundraisers can cover the costs for an entire year of Scouting, and, even more importantly, participation teaches life skills such as goal setting, salesmanship, communication, teamwork, time management, and more.
