Shooting Sports Merit Badges Day at Camp Currier (August 8)
The Chickasaw Council is thrilled to present an additional session of the popular Shooting Sports Merit Badges Days at Camp Currier as part of the Kia Kima 2020 Experience! In partnership with the Shooting Sports Committee, we will be offering the Rifle Shooting and Shotgun Shooting merit badges at Camp Currier again on August 8, 2020. Scouts will be able to select one merit badge per day to work, so they may complete up to two Shooting Sports badges over just two weekends!
When, Where, and Time
The next Shooting Sports Merit Badges Day will be Saturday, August 8, 2020, at Camp Currier. Check-in for merit badge day begins at 8:30 a.m., at the Golightly Lodge, and merit badge sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. Merit badge sessions are scheduled to end at 3:00 p.m., but the facilitators will remain on the ranges until about 5:00 p.m., to ensure that Scouts have the opportunity to qualify (finish the shooting required by the badge). The Rifle Shooting and Shotgun Shooting merit badges will be offered (each with only eight spots, so register early)!
Click on the buttons below to register. In order to ensure proper distancing, only eight Scouts will be allowed to register for each merit badge (a total of twenty-four Scouts total on each day). The cost per Scout to participate is $25.00, which includes all merit badge materials and lunch, and adults or parents may pay $5.00 for lunch.
All Scouts who register for the Rifle Shooting and Shotgun Shooting merit badges will be expected to answer a short questionnaire/quiz to prepare them for participation. This will be e-mailed to you, along with some helpful resources, after you register. Scouts who register for these badges must complete this quiz! Additionally, Scouts should be physically able to handle the firearms for any badges for which they register. If you have questions or concerns about this, please contact us. Scouts of any experience level are invited to participate, but everyone is expected to have a positive attitude!
All programs will be led by highly-trained adults (N.R.A. Range Safety Officers and discipline instructors), who are registered leaders in the Chickasaw Council. Each Scout should have his or her own personal protective equipment, including a mask or face covering; the Chickasaw Council will provide increased hygiene and sanitation equipment and supplies for common-use areas. Additionally, we will be observing social distancing, and Scouts will be instructed on expectations for staying apart.
