USA Archery Level I Training, Spring 2020

The Chickasaw Council Shooting Sports Committee is pleased to offer the USA Archery Instructor Level I training for adults and youth. You must be BSA-registered and at least fifteen years old to take this Level I course and be at least eighteen years old to run an archery range. The course is being held on three Saturdays (participants only need to attend one), February 22, March 21, or May 2, from 8: 30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Camp Currier. The cost is $60.00 and the certification is good for three years.  The registration deadline is
the day prior to each training.
For questions, please contact the Course Instructor, Jimmie James, USA Archery Level 3 NTS Coach, at or 901-356-3345.
You will need to bring your own lunch, water, and Parts A and B of the BSA Annual Health and Medical Record. All other materials will be supplied that day.
This is an instructor course, not a basic skills course, and some knowledge and experience in archery will be helpful but is not a requirement. This is a good course to take to learn the essentials to improve your archery skills. You'll learn how to set up and operate a safe short-term archery range and introductory program, teach new archers, maintain your archery
equipment, and learn common archery shooting errors and corrections. You will learn about the BSA archery range rules, safety regulations, and opportunities for archery events by BSA and the Chickasaw Council. The three-year certification may be renewed with USA Archery based on adequate teaching experience without having to retake the class. Volunteering for
council and district archery events may not only satisfy the recertification requirement, but will hone your skills and support the Chickasaw Council's shooting programs.
This eight-hour course fully prepares you to take the written exam and complete the safety briefing presentation the same day. Upon passing the requirements and completing your registration, your USA Archery Level 1 certification will be made available for downloading anytime and you will have access to online USA Archery Training Videos for you and your
Those who complete the instructor course and meet BSA requirements will be able to:
  1. Run a Scouts BSA and Venturing archery shooting event
  2. Run a Cub Scout archery range at the district or council level
  3. Check-out and rent council archery equipment (except LaPorte Machine which requires an additional sign-off)
  4. Meet competency requirements for Archery merit badge counselor for Scouts BSA and Venturing Archery Shooting Sports Elective.
