Did You Know? High Adventure Fun Awaits!
July 1, 2020
Scouting has high adventure camps that provide lifetime memories!
While camping and outdoor experiences are a well-known part of the Scouting program, there are four high adventure bases that provide true wilderness experiences in some of the country’s most beautiful locales. These are “capstone” adventures that every Scout aspires to attend, and include:
- Philmont Scout Ranch, a 137,500-acre wilderness area in the mountains near Cimarron, New Mexico, with peaks ranging from 6,500 feet to 12,441 feet. Philmont provides an ultimate backpacking and mountaineering experience.
- Northern Tier High Adventure Base, which offers mostly 6-10 day canoe trips in the wilderness of Minnesota and Canada.
- Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, which includes sailing, island camping, snorkeling, and SCUBA adventures in the Florida Keys and the Bahamas.
- The Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve, which provides outdoor activities such as whitewater rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, orienteering, Ziplines, and geocaching. This is also the site for national Scout jamborees, and hosted the world Scout jamboree in 2019.
Scouting provides adventures of a lifetime, whether you like to hike, climb mountains, sail, canoe, explore the ocean, or share fellowship with troops from all over the U.S. – and the world!
